Jurgen Klopp provides fresh injury update on Diogo Jota

13 December 2020 - 21:12

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Diogo Jota could be out of action for up to two months after sustaining a knee injury.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The Portuguese picked up the problem during the 1-1 Champions League draw against FC Midtjylland on Wednesday.

It was initially suggested that he may have picked up a knock, but Klopp has now confirmed that the injury is much more serious.

"He will be out for a while. We don't know exactly but one-and-a-half, two months. We don't know exactly. It's pretty similar with Kostas Tsimikas, by the way. Unbelievable," He told via Liverpoolfc.com.

Jota won't require any surgery after the setback, but it is certainly a big blow for the Reds, who are already without several first-team stars.

Joe Gomez, Xherdan Shaqiri, James Milner, Virgil van Dijk and Thiago Alcantara are among those, who are also unavailable due to injuries.

Liverpool missed the chance to go top of the Premier League standings after a frustrating 1- 1 draw against Fulham on the road.

They had beaten the Cottagers in six successive league meetings, but struggled to break through them, barring a single goal via the penalty spot.
