Predicted Manchester United lineup (4-2-3-1) vs Southampton, Cavani and Bailly start

02 February 2021 - 19:16

Manchester United are scheduled to entertain Southampton in tonight's Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

  • Chelsea want to sign Lyon star to replace Jadon Sancho
  • Arsenal want to bring Aymeric Laporte back to England

  • The Red Devils have recently lost momentum with a draw and defeat to Arsenal and Sheffield United.

This has dropped them three points behind leaders Manchester City, who have played a game less.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping that his team can return to winning ways against the Saints tonight.

    Formation: 4-2-3-1

    Predicted Lineup:

David de Gea has been the Red Devils' preferred pick in goal when fit and he is expected to start against the Saints. In the backline, Solskjaer may make a couple of changes. Victor Lindelof has had a nagging back problem in recent weeks and that has seen him regularly swapped with Eric Bailly.

Bailly was an unused substitute last weekend and he could come in to partner Harry Maguire in the central defence. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to start at right-back, but Alex Telles may replace Luke Shaw on the left side of the defence.

Scott McTominay is available for selection after his early exit in the Arsenal game with a stomach bug. Still, we are fancying him to feature on the bench. Fred could be accompanied by Paul Pogba, who has played in a more advanced attacking role in recent weeks.

Marcus Rashford has experienced a tough couple of games in the league and he could be given a breather with Mason Greenwood taking his place on the right wing. Elsewhere, Anthony Martial should return on the left wing with Bruno Fernandes starting in his customary number 10 role.

Edinson Cavani is likely to lead the line once more. The Uruguayan had a poor game last weekend where he missed two gilt-edged scoring chances. He starred in the reverse meeting with the Saints with two goals and an assist and will be aiming to redeem himself.

Predicted Manchester United lineup: David de Gea; Aaron wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire, Alex Telles; Fred, Paul Pogba; Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial; Edinson Cavani.
