Manchester United could compete with Arsenal to land the signature of Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Portuguese is expected to leave the Midlands outfit this summer as they are looking to recoup funds for new signings.
It was recently claimed that the Gunners were interested in Neves, but they could now face competition from United.
According to Eurosport, the Red Devils are long-term admirers of Neves, and they could go head-to-head with Arsenal to sign him.
The club currently have Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Fred and Scott McTominay as the senior defensive midfield options.
However, Matic is nearly 33 and could be phased out. Pogba's future is also uncertain with his contract expiring in June next year.
Neves could be a suitable addition to the club's ranks, but he won't come on the cheap with a reported price tag of £40 million.
Aside from Neves, Wolves are planning to sell Pedro Neto and Adama Traore to provide funds for new manager Bruno Lage to spend.
