Senna wins it for Villarreal

27 April 2008 - 22:10

A spectacular strike from Spanish midfielder Marcos Senna earned Villarreal a classic 1-0 victory over Real Betis to deny Real Madrid the La Liga title for now. Madrid still are likely to win the title, but not just yet.

  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • Marcos Senna scored the only goal in the 16th-minute when he lofted the ball from just inside the Betis half to catch goalkeeper Casto Espinosa off his line in spectacular fashion.

Betis dominated the second half with striker Jose Mari Romero, a former Villarreal player, coming close to scoring on several occasions.

Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Lopez then made several important saves, the most impressive being when he denied defender Juanito Gutierrez in the 79th minute.
