Chelsea are set to challenge Manchester United in the race to sign Frenkie de Jong, according to The Telegraph.
United have been in constant talks to sign the Netherlands international from Barcelona, but they are yet to reach a suitable agreement.
While a fixed fee of around €65m has been agreed, discussions are ongoing over the add-ons which may exceed over €20m.
Amidst this, Chelsea have expressed an interest in the Dutch midfielder, and may have an edge over United in different aspects.
First of all, they have qualified for the Champions League. The competition is said to be one of the priorities for De Jong next term.
Meanwhile, they have a couple of players in Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso that the Blaugrana are interested in signing.
There are claims that Chelsea may attempt to land De Jong in a separate deal, provided the Blaugrana agree to sign the duo.
It remains to be seen how this transfer saga unfolds over coming days.
