Chelsea have suffered a massive injury blow with Reece James ruled out for up to eight weeks, according to The Telegraph.
The England international has been a superb performer for the Blues this term, bagging two goals and two assists from 11 games.
However, he won't play any part for the remainder of the year, having sustained a significant knee injury against AC Milan.
James was initially said to have avoided a serious injury, but further scans on Saturday showed that the setback was more concerning.
After speaking with a specialist, Chelsea have now confirmed that it would take a minimal of eight weeks to recover from a surgery.
The news is obviously a big blow for the west London giants, but also for England. James would have been a game-changer for them.
Aside from James, Manchester City's Kyle Walker remains a huge doubt for the World Cup, having undergone a groin surgery recently.
Walker is facing a race against time to make the World Cup.
