Manchester United reportedly explored the possibility of signing Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann.
The Red Devils have held a long-term interest in the World Cup winner and Sky Sports claim that they made an enquiry for him last summer.
However, the Frenchman made it clear that he did not want to leave Atletico. He has since secured his permanent transfer from Barcelona.
United are currently in a transitional phase under manager Erik ten Hag. They have had a good Premier League season thus far with 39 points.
Champions League football should be the aim at the end of the campaign but the club should also fancy ending their six-year trophy drought.
Griezmann with his vast experience and match-winning ability would have been an excellent buy, but the forward had other plans in mind.
United have still made several high-profile additions to the squad including Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, who have been sublime in midfield.
They are likely to go on another big spending spree this summer.
