Chelsea have been unsuccessful in convincing Mason Mount to extend his contract, according to Standard Sport.
The England international has been a key player for the Blues but his game time has reduced this term amid injuries.
His current deal with the club expires in the summer of 2024 and the hierarchy have not convinced him to extend so far.
Standard Sport claim that the club re-opened talks with the midfielder but they could not find an agreement over personal terms.
Despite this, the west London giants have not given up and they are expected to hold fresh negotiations during the summer.
Mauricio Pochettino is set to be announced as the Blues' new manager and the Argentine is determined to keep Mount at the club.
He views the England international as a vital figure in his attack and has urged the hierarchy to persuade him with a better offer.
Liverpool are currently keeping tabs on Mount ahead of a possible bid.
