Sunderland: Keane is staying

Sunderland: Keane is staying

28 May 2008 - 12:10

Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has strenuously denied claims that Roy Keane could be leaving the club and heading for Chelsea. Since Avram Grant has been sacked at the Blues, a number of candidates have been listed as successors, but Keane will not be one of them.

  • Chelsea quoted price to sign Igor Thiago
  • Chelsea make Joao Pedro transfer decision
  • Sunderland have shown Keane an enormous amount of backing and have told Keane he has over £25 million of transfer funds.

"I am not overly surprised that Roy has been linked," Quinn revealed. "But rather than fret about it, I would take it as a positive that we must be doing something right as a football club.

"And remember, Roy is still under contract at Sunderland for next season and I am pretty happy at this stage that he will be with us for a long time to come."
