Chelsea have decided against pursuing a deal for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz during the winter transfer window, according to David Ornstein.
The Blues were keen on landing the Brazilian earlier this month. It was reported that the hierarchy see him as a good system player on loan.
However, they have now opted against signing the versatile midfielder.
Luiz, who is currently on loan with Nottingham Forest, is still expected to pursue a new challenge before the transfer window closes next month.
Aston Villa are negotiating terms with the Bianconeri. They are prepared to sign him on loan with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.
Luiz has barely made an impact during his time at the Tricky Trees. His loan will be mutually terminated before his return to the Villans.
Villa are in a midfield injury crisis with setbacks for Ross Barkley, Youri Tielemans and John McGinn. Luiz's return will be a big boost.
