Defoe rumours surface

17 September 2007 - 15:35

Several clubs are monitoring Jermain Defoe's transfer situation at Tottenham after rumours circulated that the striker has had enough of life on the bench at White Hart Lane. Portsmouth, Arsenal and Newcastle are all fans of the striker.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • Despite this, Jermain Defoe insisted he was still committed to Tottenham, despite a reported bust-up with manager Martin Jol.

Defoe has been stalling over signing a new contract, and Jol has threatened to place the striker in the reserves unless he signs.

The player's contract runs out at the end of next season and Spurs want him to commit to a long-term deal and avoid losing the player on the cheap before then.
