Spurs want Keane to stay

Spurs want Keane to stay

01 July 2008 - 23:17

Tottenham has dismissed the earlier media reports that suggested Robbie Keane has filed a transfer request to leave the club. The club has stated that they want Keane to stay.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • It was suggested by some earlier reports that Keane will be joining Liverpool leaving Spurs and has requested him to be put on transfer list for this purpose. The speculation remains if Liverpool Benitez had offered a player-plus cash offer of Peter Crouch and 5M to sign the Irish striker to partner with Fernando Torres next season.

The Spurs are already facing issues at the front line as strikers Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Bent are in the verge of a move away from the club.

If Keane decides to leave the club for Liverpool eyeing a champions league spot, it will push the Spurs into deep trouble. Keane had been instrumental for the Spurs last season scoring 24 goals in the season.

The London based club had approached to sign Sevilla's attacking midfielder, Diego Capel, and the result was a rejection of the initial offer.

The Spurs offered a value that equaled the player's release clause, though the clause itself was so complicated that it implied only to the club's in Spain.

"He has a clause in his contract which is only valid for a Spanish team,” confirmed Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido.

"We do not negotiate with any figure less than that. Tottenham made a superior bid and we said no."
