Defoe delighted with Spurs goal

19 January 2009 - 10:16

Jermain Defoe is delighted that he scored his first goal since making a return to Tottenham against his old club Portsmouth. Defoe's goal helped Spurs battle to a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.

  • Gary Neville breaks silence on Ruben Amorim
  • Confirmed Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Brentford, Estevao absent

  • Defoe was getting a bit of a reception from the Portsmouth travelling support, so he was delighted to put one in the back of the net against them.

Defoe quipped: “To score on my home debut for the second time meant a lot — but it would have been so much better if we could have won.

“I celebrated scoring against my old club because I always feel fantastic when I hit the target, why change?

“Hopefully this is just the start for me — I want more goals to help push the team up the table.

“We are in a real fight at the minute, it’s tough down there but we’ve just got to keep it going.

“Obviously I knew I was going to get a bit of stick from the Portsmouth fans. That’s football but I enjoyed the game and it would have been nice if we had won.”
