Man City set to sign Shay Given

29 January 2009 - 15:06

Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given is set to join Manchester City today in a deal worth £8.5M. Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear has denied this saying they have not recieved an offer more than £5m for the keeper.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Manchestery City seems to be set to sign the Republic of Ireland star Shay Given. Given is expected to sign a contract worth £86,0000 per week in the coming days.

Shay Given had been a Toon side faithful for a long eleven years. His performances in the recent times had been nothing short of magical. Although Newcastle United has a lot of problems with their backwall, Given had been the only comforting factor for the Toon Army.

The increasing speculation and transfer talks had unsettled him in recent times. He finally made it clear to boss Kinnear that he wanted a move.

Latest reports suggest that he even passed a medical test at City.

Joe Kinnear has denied this news by saying that Man City have not offered the asking rate of £8.5m and that he will not sell Given for any rate below that.

Kinnear said that City offered a mere £5m for the Irish keeper and not "a penny more"!
