Man Utd beat Roma..again

Man Utd beat Roma..again

02 October 2007 - 20:54

Wayne Rooney's first goal of the season was enough to win the match against Roma. The solitary strike gave Man Utd an important 3 points in the Champions League qualification stages, but unfortunately there was no repeat of the 7-1 drubbing Man Utd gave Roma last year.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • Rooney broke the deadlock with a sharp 15-yard finish after he was set up by Nani to leave United three points clear at the top of Group F.

Chances flew all over the place in the first half, with Totti and Rooney both trying their luck from distance on several occasions.

United demonstrated plenty of intent but very little of the attacking verve which served them so well last season.

The best chance came in the 33rd, when Nani rounded the back of the defence only for Rooney to fire the ball over.

Aquilani could've and maybe should've scored as he fired narrowly wide from the edge of the box as Roma sensed a goal was possible.

Rooney clinched victory 20 minutes from time with a pearler to spark celebrations at Old Trafford.

Later, Tevez when close from 20 yards and Perrotta went close for Roma but failed to hit the target.

Roma nearly equalised with only three minutes left on the clock when Totti played the ball back for Mauro Esposito who carelessly blazed wide from 10 yards with United stretched at the back.
