Sunderland boss Steve Bruce will make a move for Birmingham City defender Craig Gardner, in a deal worth around £3.5 million.
The 24 year old was one of the stars of Birmingham City's campaign last year, and the club had hoped to hang on to the player as they look for promotion back to the Premiership.
However it appears that the player himself is pining for a move away from St Andrews, with Sunderland his preferred destination.
