Liverpool agree Downing fee

Liverpool have finally agreed a fee with Aston Villa for the transfer of England international left winger Stewart Downing. It is understood that the Villains have accepted a bid in the region of 20m GBP for the player.

Liverpool have already added Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam to their ranks this year, but are believed to be ready to let Joe Cole quit the club after an unimpressive first season at Anfield.

In addition, Raul Meireles is also expected to leave alongside Alberto Aquilani.

Downing is due in Liverpool today to discuss personal terms with the Reds, and will sign a contract worth a reported 120,000 GBP a week.
