Newcastle may miss out on Erik Pieters

Newcastle seem to be losing the race to sign PSV Eindhoven star Erik Pieters. According to reports from Holland, Newcastle had tabled a bid for the player.

The left back is being lined up as a replacement for Jose Enrique, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle last week.

Pieters joined PSV Eindhoven back in 2008.

"Before speaking about [a transfer], there should be some serious discussions between PSV and Newcastle", said the Dutchman to AD Sportwereld.

"To my knowledge however, my club has no intention of selling me."
