United show interest in Javi Martinez

Manchester United are tracking Athletic Bilbao playmaker Javi Martinez after his impressive performances have caught the eye of manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Martinez is being watched by many clubs and only a tempting offer by United, claimed to be in the region of £18 million, will be enough to make Athletic part with their prized possession.

Martinez, 23, is a Spain international and has even won a World Cup medal as he was part of the 23 man side selected for the 2010 tournament.

With neither Anderson, Carrick or Fletcher being in peak form, Martinez could give the United some depth in the midfield.

It is reported that United will look to make a move in January, but in case it fails, they are prepared to chase the player in the coming summer again.
