Arsenal rule out Cahill bid in January
Arsenal rule out Cahill bid in January
Arsene Wenger has ruled out a move for Bolton defender Gary Cahill once the January transfer window reopens, insisting that he is happy with his current crop of centre backs at the Emirates.
Bolton's star man will be out of contract at the Reebok Stadium next summer.
In recent months, Cahill has been linked with moves to Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and even Barcelona, but as yet no deal has been agreed for the star centre back.
It is understood that Arsenal will now no longer follow up any interest in Cahill.
"Cahill is good enough to play Champions League, but he is not someone I would be interested in," said Wenger.
"I have got five central defenders - [Laurent] Koscielny, [Sebastien] Squillaci, Mertesacker, [Thomas] Vermaelen and [Johan] Djourou. Of this five, four are international players.
"We were in the market in the summer, but at that time they were greedy."
Bolton's valuation of Cahill now stands at 12m GBP, almost half the amount they expected last summer.
