Wolves step up their Leon Best interest

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick Mccarthy has stepped up his interest in Newcastle striker Leon Best. The arrival of Senegal international striker Papiss Demba Cisse has seemingly ended Best's hopes of regular first team football at the Sports Direct Arena, and manager Alan Pardew has told Best that he is free to leave if he wishes.

Newcastle's acquisition of Papiss Demba Cisse from Freiburg earlier in the month will pair Demba Ba with his international team mate; but this new look strikeforce spells the end for Leon Best and his spell at Newcastle.

Wolves have contacted Alan Pardew last week regarding Best's availability, and it appears that he does not feature in Newcastle's plans for the remainder of the season. Fellow forward Peter Lovenkrands has also been told that he is free to leave.

With Wolves currently sitting in a precarious position in the Premier League, Mccarthy has decided to add some further depth to his squad and his primary focus has been to sign a new striker.

25-year-old Best will arrive at Molineux for talks on Monday, sign a loan deal until the end of the season and it is understood that Wolves will also have the first option to sign the striker on a permanent basis.
