Tottenham have entered advanced discussions over a transfer for Corinthians' midfielder Paulinho. The Brazilian international has been linked with a move to Tottenham for well over a month, and former Arsenal favourite Edu - the Corinthians director of football - has admitted a transfer could be wrapped up shortly.

The powerful midfielder, aged 24, has forced his way into Brazil's international setup and has been in inspired form for his country during the Confederations Cup.

The player, who has already spent time abroad with Lithuanian side FC Vilnius and Polish team Lodz, is currently playing for Corinthians. He has played with the Brazilian side for three years.

Paulinho is well known for his marauding runs forward and is also a useful goalscorer, having bagged 13 goals in 54 games in 2012 for his club. Tottenham are believed to have agreed a fee of around $11 million for the player.

“The situation is well underway. We have to agree on some details of the negotiation, so I can’t say he will leave yet, but the negotiations are good," said Corinthians director, Edu.
