Barcelona defender Alves wants Fabregas to stay

Brazil international Daniel Alves has thrown his weight behind Cesc Fabregas and believes the Spain midfielder has a lot to offer to the Barcelona side in the next season.

The 26 year old former Arsenal captain has been David Moyes' primary target this summer but the Premier League champions have already had their two bids rejected.


Reports have emerged that Manchester United are preparing a third bid for the Barcelona playmaker and Gerardo Martinez has left it to Fabregas to decide if he wants to stay.


However, Alves remains hopeful that the United target decides against leaving Camp Nou as he is key to winning trophies for the Spanish side.


"Football is a collective sport and you cannot look for scapegoats. If he decides to stay here, I'll be delighted to continue having him as a team-mate. The squad respects him a lot", Alves defended his teammate. 


He added: "It's up to him what he does, but I think he can bring a lot to this side. The team needs players of Cesc's quality to win trophies."
