Leverkusen boss Sami Hyppia in the market for a new striker

Former Liverpool defender and current Bayer Leverkusen manager Sami Hyppia has admitted that the club would be find themselves in a difficult position if Stefan Kieesling picks up an injury.

The Bundesliga club are in dire needs of a new striker following Andre Schurrle's departure to Stamford Bridge which has left them with only one recognised striker in their ranks.

Kiessling was terrific for Leverkusen last season as he ended up scoring the maximum goals in the Bundesliga. Following Schurrle's sale, Hyppia is believed to have funds available to bring in a new face but it remains to be seen whom does he have in his mind as a suitable replacement for Schurrle.

"We will have a problem if Stefan picks up an injury," he told German sports magazine, Kicker.

"Therefore it's important to consider if we can sign a good new striker. This is a priority.

"We definitely have strikers, like Arkadiusz Milik, in our squad. But he needs to make some progress to be in real contention for the back-up role of striker."
