Sebastian Coates out for 6 months

Liverpool's Uruguayan international defender Sebastian Coates is facing up to 6 months on the sidelines with a torn cruciate ligament picked up playing for Uruguay last week in a friendly against Japan.

Coates made only 6 Premier league starts for the Reds last season, scoring one goal.


This injury is likely to keep Martin Skrtel at Liverpool, with a proposed loan move to Napoli about to collapse. Brendan Rodgers is keen to keep his options open and won't settle for a depleted defense.


There has been talk of Tiago Ilori being a transfer target for Liverpool, having had a bid rejected last month. The Portuguese defender has been stalling on a new contract.
