Sunderland to bid for Alexander Buttner?

The Black Cats are eyeing a move for Manchester United defender Alexander Buttner, if Leighton Baines signs for the Red Devils, reports the Express. 

Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio is in the transfer market in search for a new left-back following the departure of Danny Rose to Tottenham Hotspur at the conclusion of his successive loan stint at the Stadium of Light. 

Di Canio has placed defender Buttner at the top of his priority list to fill the void left by Danny Rose, but it is reported that the Red Devils would only let go of their Dutch defender if they were to sign Leighton Baines from Everton before the conclusion of the summer transfer window.  

Sunderland are currently placed second last in the Premier League and have gained just one point from their opening three matches, following defeat to newcomers Crystal Palace.
