Everton boss backs Newcastle's quiet summer in the transfer market

Ahead of Monday's crucial game between Everton and Newcastle, the Toffees' manager Roberto Martinez has told reporters that Newcastle's quiet summer in the transfer market has proved that you don't need to spend big to succeed.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew and director of football Joe Kinnear were slammed for a lack of top quality signings. However, Everton manager Roberto Martinez has praised the Toon Army for keeping their squad together and for deciding that there should be no need to add new talent to their squad.


"As I've mentioned many, many times, the transfer window 'circus' allows people to have perceptions of teams that are wrong," said the Everton boss.

"They made their business early with the loan of Remy and after that they didn't sign anyone. It seemed from the outside that they didn't do good business, but the reality is the squad has been strong since January. They made a lot of good signings and that group of players are settled. I see a really good balance between experience and organisation."
