Liverpool have long term plan to keep Luis Suarez

Liverpool want to tie Suarez down to a longer contract

Liverpool are hoping to begin contract renewal discussions with Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez next summer amidst interest from Europe's biggest sides, with Real Madrid persistently linked with the 26-year-old forward. Anfield sources are hopeful that the controversial striker will put pen to paper on a fresh contract.

Suarez, who arrived at Liverpool from Ajax in 2011 as part of a £22.8 million transfer deal, had been close to making a transfer to Arsenal in August after the Gunners made a £50 million bid for the player. Liverpool management rejected all bids for the player despite the fact that Suarez had permission to speak to the Gunners over a transfer move.

However, Real Madrid are struggling to keep up with league leaders Atletico Madrid and Barcelona at the top of La Liga, leaving the Spanish giants scouring Europe to secure the signing of a world class striker after the winter break.

Liverpool sources have suggested that talks will begin next summer with Suarez, but some club representatives are eager to start the discussions earlier to stave off the interest of Carlo Ancelotti's side.

The Premier League's second place side are confident that they can keep the player at the club and it is understood that there is general agreement within Liverpool's upper management team that they will reject any offers for the striker, who has scored 41 goals in 79 league games for the Reds.
