Aston Villa confirm Tottenham bid for Christian Benteke
Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert admits that Premier League rivals Tottenham made an enquiry for Belgium international striker Christian Benteke in the summer. The forward decided to stay at Villa Park though and signed a new contract with the club.
Amongst the team sinterested in Benteke last summer included Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham, but for the first time Lambert has admitted an enquiry was received from Spurs for Villa's star player.
Lambert said of the past summer and Benteke's contract situation: "I knew myself what was going on, so I was not going to get caught up in something that was never going to transpire.
"Are you talking about when Spurs came in for him? Nearly every team alive were meant to be coming in for him. It won’t really faze me until I hear it from somebody else. It never really prayed on my mind what was going to happen. I think there were a lot things going on and he’s probably getting it from all directions your head starts to go. what’s happening here. He was asked a lot of questions."
