Man Utd make club-record transfer offer for Juan Mata?

Manchester United have made a club-record bid worth £40m for the services of Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata this month.

Recent reports have suggested that the Premier League champions are keen on securing the signature of the talented Spanish midfielder during the winter transfer window, with the player set to make way from the West London outfit.

Mata has struggled to cement his place in the first-team this season, following the arrival of manager Jose Mourinho, and is believed to have shown his frustration as he missed training on Wednesday afternoon.

Sky Sports News claims that the Red Devils have now tested Chelsea's resolve by making an initial transfer offer for the talented playmaker.

Mata joined the Blues from La Liga outfit Valencia in the summer of 2011.
