Chelsea join race for Man City target

Chelsea are reportedly set to join Manchester City in the race to sign Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala this summer, according to The Mirror.

The talented defender is considered as one of the best players from the Primeira Liga, and has attracted interest from a host of clubs over the past month.

The Citizens failed to seal a deal for the French international in January, and reports had revealed that the Premier League champions would make a renewed bid for his services during the summer transfer window.

However, The Mirror claims that league rivals Chelsea are set to launch a bid in the region of £35m for the 23-year-old, as manager Jose Mourinho prepares to boost the club's defensive setup for the next campaign. 

City have already signed Mangala's teammate Fernando this summer.
