So'ton bid for Spurs winger

Southampton are believed to have made a formal offer for Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend, according to Sky Sports.

The England international missed out on the World Cup finals in Brazil with an Achilles injury sustained at the back end of last season.

A report from Sky Sports claims that the 23-year-old has been told that he will be allowed to leave the North London club during the current transfer window.

In addition to this, the Saints have made a formal bid in the region of £12m for the services of the talented midfielder.

Townsend was left out of the match-day squad for the club's 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.
