Calum Chambers deserved English call, feels Wilshere
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere believes new Gunners’ team-mate Calum Chambers could shine on his debut for England if given a chance.
The 19-year-old was picked by manager Roy Hodgson to be a part of the Three Lions’ squad to face Norway in their international friendly tonight, just weeks after the young defender made his competitive debut for Arsene Wenger’s side in the Community Shield fixture against Manchester City at Wembley.
Originally a member of Southampton’s youth academy, Chambers made his senior team debut in 2012, but after 22 appearances for the Saints he joined the North London outfit this summer, and has since then featured in all of the matches for the English club.
And Wilshere feels the player has the talent and confidence to make his mark at the international stage, as England look to better their performance after being knocked out in the group stage of the World Cup in Brazil this year.
“I think he's a confident lad, you've seen that when he played in the Community Shield - he was one of the best players on the pitch and he keeps improving every game”, the 22-year-old told Arsenal’s official website.
"He looks so comfortable so one day he's going to play for his country."
