We need to forget the World Cup, urges Costa

Diego Costa urges his team mates to forget the debacle in Brazil and focus on the European qualifier

Spanish striker Diego Costa insists that it is important for his team to forget the disastrous World Cup campaign, and focus on their upcoming fixtures instead.

Vicente Del Bosque’s side, who won the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, were knocked out in the group stages of the tournament in Brazil this year after they lost two out of their three games against Netherlands and Chile.

The two time Euro Cup winners will take on the field for the first time since the debacle when they face France in an international friendly tomorrow, and will be hoping to get back to winning ways before they take on Macedonia in their European qualifier on Monday.

And Costa, who chose to play for the Rojas instead of his birth country Brazil, is eager to once again put on the red shirt and prove his mettle this time, urging on the need to start afresh.

“I can't want to start again with the national side because Brazil was not what we expected”, the Chelsea player told UEFA's official site.

“I, for one, know that I didn't give the level of performance everyone was expecting, and neither did the side as a whole.

“What has happened is in the past and we have to turn over a new leaf”, the 25-year-old added.
