Spain should not abandon Tiki Taka: Cazorla

Arsenal winger Santi Cazorla feels the blame of Spain’s disastrous performance in the World Cup  this year should not be put on ‘tiki-taka’ and insists his side need not abandon it after a few disappointing outings.

The 2010 World Cup winners and two time Euro Cup champions were knocked out of the first round in Brazil this year after embarrassing losses in their opening games against Netherlands and Chile.

The Roja, who took the field for the first time since their World Cup debacle, lost yet another game when they went down 1-0 against France in their international friendly last night.

But Cazorla believes that the pass-centric form of football made them successful in the recent past, and the Reds should not shun their style of play after just one bad tournament.

“In my opinion 'tiki-taka' is crucial for football”, the 29-year-old told Arsenal Player.

 “I identify myself with the style because it was playing this way how Spain achieved success.

“Everyone says this was the best football played by a national side for ages. And if you lose, that doesn't mean the style is dead. It's not that everything looks beautiful when you win or ugly when you lose”, the former Villarreal player continued.

“Spain have their philosophy, they will stick to it and I'm sure we'll succeed again very soon.”

Vicente Del Bosque’s outfit will begin their 2016 European Championship qualifying campaign on Monday, when the defending champions take on Macedonia at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
