Victor Valdes on verge of Liverpool transfer

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes is reportedly closing in on a switch to Liverpool, according to The Express.

Valdes left the Catalan giants at the end of last season, and has since been linked with the likes of AS Monaco and Liverpool.

The Express claims that the former Spain international will undergo his medical during next weekend's international break.

It is also understood that manager Brendan Rodgers is keen on providing sufficient competition to current number one Simon Mignolet following a below-par start to the season.

Valdes is allowed to move outside the transfer window as he is a free-agent.
