Arsenal line up £20m swoop for William Carvalho

Arsenal are reportedly readying a a January offer for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to The Mail.

The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is aware of the club's need for a new holding midfielder, with the likes of Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta failing to produce consistent performances this season.

The Mail reports that the Frenchman is keen on reigniting a bid for the Portuguese international having had a £15m offer rebuffed by Sporting over the summer.

It is also understood that a bid of around £20m could be made for Carvalho when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Arsenal play away at West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday.
