Tottenham weigh up bid for Winston Reid

West Ham central defender Winston Reid has emerged as a surprise January transfer target for Tottenham. The New Zealand international's contract expires this summer.

With numerous teams apparently in the race for the defender's signature, Reid has plenty of options and a big decision to make. Arsenal are rumoured to be amongst those sides who want to add Reid to their squad, but have not yet agreed a fee with the Hammers. West Ham are desperate to keep hold of the centre back and have been locked in talks with Reid. However, the defender is apparently set on a move elsewhere.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign another defender as he pushes for Champions League football next season and Reid is reportedly the best available option on the market within his budget.

West Ham could be tempted to sell Reid for a smaller fee as the player is able to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.
