Adebayor likely to stay at Spurs

Adebayor started his first game for Spurs since 2nd November after the striker was granted permission to return home in Africa for personal reasons. His return was received negatively as the striker was booed for the second game running, after comments made about the club.

Emmanuel Adebayor looks likely to stay at Spurs for the remainder of the season after captaining the side to a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United in the Capital One Cup.

Adebayor had a good chance to open the scoring last night as found himself in behind the Sheffield United defence, but failed to convert from close range after Jay McEveley made a last ditch block.

Spurs fans will feel aggrieved Mauricio Pochettino still values Adebayor as his main striker, meaning in-form Harry Kane will suffer. Kane, netting 9 goals in the absence of Adebayor may be asked to drop deeper in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Nevertheless, 3 games remain until the end of the transfer window and Adebayor may want a move elsewhere if the echo of boos continues.

Since leaving Arsenal in 2009 the 30 year old has found it difficult to make his mark with spells at Manchester City and Real Madrid.
