Chelsea need more glory to sign Stones - Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand has insisted that Chelsea must keep on winning trophies in order to attract a player of John Stones' calibre to the club.

The Blues were understood to have had as many as three bids rejected for the England international, as the Toffees were not keen on offloading their star asset this summer.

Ferdinand, who called quits on his professional career earlier this year, has now iterated that Jose Mourinho's side must maintain their trophy cabinet to lure top talents to the club in the future.

"There are a lot of ways to try and get this guy (Stones) through the door but at the end of the day, if the kid has got anything about him, he will be saying 'where can I go to win trophies?" he told BT Sport.

"I hope that is the first question all young players ask rather than who is going to pay them the most money."

Chelsea have had a dismal start to the league campaign and currently find themselves in 17th place with just four points on the board.
