Jose Fonte inks new Southampton deal

Portugal international Jose Fonte has signed a new contract to keep him at Southampton until the summer of 2018.

The 31-year-old joined the South Coast side from Crystal Palace in 2010, and has since then been a thorn in their defence.

Fonte has emerged into a top centre-back under manager Ronald Koeman, and his form has earned him international recognition having made his debut for Selecao last year.

BT Sport now reveals that the experienced defender has committed his future to the club by signing up a new three-year deal.

Saints host Leicester City in the next Premier League encounter on Saturday.
