Mourinho hints at fourth major signing

José Mourinho held his first press conference as Manchester United manager today, and the outspoken Portuguese held nothing back.

The 53-year-old former Chelsea manager defended his record of promoting young players into the first team by producing a list of 49 names, claiming each was an academy player that he had given a senior debut to throughout his managerial career.

Mourinho also defended his recent record when questioned about how things ended sourly for him at Stamford Bridge last season. The Portuguese insisted that he has nothing to prove as he won his last Premier League title just a year ago.

In what has been interpreted as a thinly veiled dig at Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Mourinho added: "There are some who haven't won a title for 10 years . . . If I have a lot to prove, imagine the others."

And Mourinho also spoke fairly openly about his transfer plans, explaining that he outlined four key positions for improvement, three of which have been addressed by the additions of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the imminent arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The fourth signing, Mourinho insisted, was something that they were still working on, but that they hoped to conclude before too long. "Not on 31 August, no way." he said.

It is believed that the fourth transfer target that Mourinho was referring to is Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, as the Red Devils have been strongly linked with a potentially record breaking bid for the 23-year-old.
