Bielsa quits Lazio after two days

Marcelo Bielsa has resigned from his position as Lazio manager after just two days in the job, with the Italian side now set to let Simone Inzaghi take care of the squad for the coming season.

Bielsa's appointment had brought widespread intrigue, with many wondering how the notoriously fiery coach would perform in Serie A.

But now it appears that the 60-year-old Argentinian will not be taking the opportunity to coach the Rome club.

Lazio have released an official statement commenting on the situation: "We note with surprise of the resignation of Mr Marcelo Bielsa in clear violation of the commitments undertaken with the contracts signed last week and regularly deposited with the League and the FIGC with their required procedures.

“The Company reserves all actions to protect its rights. Entrusts the management of the team in the final preparatory retreat to Mr Simone Inzaghi.”

The reasons for Bielsa's decision are not yet known, but the man known as "El Loco" is renowned for being a capricious and volatile personality.

Bielsa is somewhat of a cult hero in the managerial world, with Pep Guardiola known to be one of his biggest admirers.

Bielsa was most recently in charge of Marseille in Ligue 1. In typical fashion the experienced coach brough some fantastic performances from his l'OM side in his first campaign, before departing acrimoniously at the beginning of last season.
