Arsenal considering Draxler move

Could Wenger be finally set to capture Draxler?

Arsenal are weighing up a potential move for VfL Wolfsburg's attacking midfielder Julian Draxler, according to reports.

The Mirror claims that recent comments from Wolfsburg's sporting director Klaus Allofs, in which he hinted that the club might be open to the possibility of selling the talented German player, have reignited Arsenal's long standing interest in Draxler.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is known to be a big admirer of Draxler, and the club have been strongly linked with a move for the player in the past when he was playing for Schalke 04.

And although Wenger is currently on the lookout for a new striker, having been unsuccessful in his attempt to lure Leicester City's top scorer Jamie Vardy to the Emrirates, he would consider spending a considerable chunk of his transfer budget on Draxler.

Draxler only signed for Wolfsburg from Schalke a year ago for €30 million, and it is believed that the German club would look for around £55 million if they are to sell the player this summer.

But the Wolves' failure to qualify for next season's Champions League, may see them more open to parting ways with their star man than they would have otherwise been.

One potential spanner in the works from an Arsenal point of view, is that Borussia Dortmund are said to be close to signing former Chelsea winger André Schürrle from Wolfsburg for €30 million, and the Volks Wagon owned club are unlikely to sell two of their best midfielders in one transfer window.
