Darmian not heading for Old Trafford exit door

Italian defender Matteo Darmian is unlikely to leave Manchester United this summer, according to reports in Italy.

Transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio yesterday claimed that Darmian is unlikely to leave United this summer, despite being linked with a move back to Italy.

In recent weeks the 26-year-old has been linked with moves to the likes of Juventus and AS Roma with rumours circulating that new United manager José Mourinho is willing to listen to offers for the Italy international.

It is believed that Darmian is on Mourinho's list of players who could be shipped out of Old Trafford this summer, along with Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind, as well as German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

And the new Red Devils' boss is thought to be eying a move for Juventus' 29-year-old centre-back Leonardo Bonucci as he looks to bolster his defensive options, with Southampton's José Fonte and Zenit Saint Petersburg's Ezequiel Garay as back-up options.

Although United's interest in AS Monaco's Brazilian full-back Fabinho is perhaps the strongest indicator that Darmian's Old Trafford future is in doubt. Mourinho is thought to be keen on the 22-year-old with the club set to offer £22 million for the player.

Darmian signed for United from Torino last summer for a fee of £14 million. After a strong start to his United career, the defender struggled to find a consistent level of form as he was shifted between right-back and left-back by Louis van Gaal.
