Mancini leaves Inter Milan

Roberto Mancini news

Roberto Mancini has left Inter Milan, paving the way for Frank De Boer to take over as manager.

Mancini's relationship with the owners of the club, Sunding Holdings broke down over the Summer and in a statement on Monday morning released by the club they confirmed that he had left the club by mutual agreement. The Italians successor is set to be former Ajax manager and Dutch international Frank De Boer who left his role as Ajax boss in May.

The 46 year old had been linked with Premier League clubs Southampton and Everton, before them vacancies were filled by Claude Peul and Ronald Koeman respectively. Former Sampdoria and Leicester City striker Mancini who claimed the Scudetto on three occasions during his first tenure as Inter boss, returned to Italian giants following successful spells at Manchester City and Turkish club Galatasaray.

Inter Milan finished fourth last season in the Serie A, but this was considered a disappointment as Inter led the standings from Napoli and eventual champions Juventus going into the Winter break.

The Chinese company, Sunding Holdings bought a majority stake in Inter in June and Mancini was promised a large budget to bring in players. However, he only managed to sign one major player with Lazio midfielder Antonio Candreva drafted in for a reported 22 million euro. Ever Bandrega arrived on a free transfer from Sevilla, while Genoan player Cristian Ansaldi arrived for a small fee.

The pre season games for Inter Milan were quite poor, they lost 4-1 to German giants Bayern Munich before Tottenham hammered them 6-1. It remains to be seen if De Boer will be appointed, and if so he could be appointed before Inter's friendly game with Borrussia Moncengladbach on Wednesday evening, before they travel to Thomond Park in Ireland to take on Celtic. De Boer, should he be selected as the new boss will have plenty of time to draft in players before the Seria A commences on the 21st of August.
