Is Pogba worth £89 million?

Pogba has to live up to the fee

After just 4 years after leaving Man United for a modest sum of £800,000, The Manchester side have splashed out a world record £89 million for the services of this talented midfielder.

This transfer makes the French midfielder the most expensive footballer to ever play the beautiful game. This deal has been one of the most speculated in the history of football, it has been a major talking point for pundits and fans alike. A topic that everyone has a different opinion on. There are many reasons to suggest that Pogba is not worth this money, despite the talent he has. But is he worth such a vast sum of money?

Why Pogba IS worth £89 million.

Paul Pogba is without a doubt one of football’s world superstars. He has fantastic technical ability, and physically, will need no time at all to adapt to English football. He has fantastic stamina and strength, can ping 40 yard passes at ease and is one of the best long shot takers in the world. He is the perfect midfielder. Not only can he play in centre midfield, defensive midfield and attacking midfield, he can also operate in a lot of midfield roles. He has some great defensive attributes, good at tackling and dominant in the air, which means he can operate as a ball winning midfielder. He also is fantastic at passing so he can play as an advanced playmaker, looking to find the space between the opposition defence and midfield and trying to create attacks. His stamina and work rate mean he can easily play as a box to box midfielder, which is crucial in any successful team. There are plenty of other roles he can play, and can switch between any of them any time in a match. The best thing about Pogba however, is that he is this good and is only 23, which means he can be a key player for United for a number of years.

Why Pogba IS NOT worth £89 million

Despite these positives there are reasons to suggest that this price is overpriced. He didn’t perform like a player worth £89 million for France is the Euros. He has also been accused of not being a Game changer, which you expect for £89 million. He is considered by many as overrated, not performing brilliantly every match and occasionally looking lost on the pitch. Sometime he also tries too hard, and tries to do too much himself. Some fans of Juventus also claim he is inconsistent which the last thing united need is right now. He also is rumoured to have quite a big ego, and in a dressing room with Jose Mourinho and Zlatan egos may clash, causing unrest in the squad.

So is Pogba worth £89 million?

The conclusion I, and nearly everyone else has come to is no. For £89 million you expect the finished article, something that Pogba isn’t. It will be interesting to see if he can change my mind.
