Will Man Utd try to sign Fabinho in January?

Mourinho seems happy with his right-back options for now

Manchester United were rumoured to be interested in signing Brazilian defender Fabinho from Monaco this summer, but no bid for the 22-year-old materialised as the transfer window closed last night. But will United try to sign the player in January?

Fabinho has been in fine form for Monaco so far this season, playing in a holding midfield role for the principality club, following the arrival of right-back Djibril Sidibe this summer.

Sidibe’s arrival at the Stade Louis II was seen as a signal that Monaco were preparing to cash in on Fabinho during the transfer window, with Old Trafford being his most likely destination.

But, despite the constant rumours in the media, United elected not to make a move for the talented Brazilian defender.

New United boss José Mourinho has been playing Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia in the right-back position so far this season, with the former Wigan Athletic player putting in some impressive displays.

United also still have Matteo Darmian as an option for the position. The Italian international was signed from TRorino for £14 million just over a year ago.

It may well be the case that Valencia’s performances have persuaded Mourinho to hold back on signing a right-back during the current transfer window. But if Valencia’s form starts to slip, Mourinho could well pull the trigger on a move to sign Fabinho in the January transfer window.
