Ince: Rooney should not be dropped
Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince believes that Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho should continue to start Wayne Rooney in the number 10 position, according to reports.
The Mirror is reporting that former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Ince believes that Wayne Rooney should continue to be a regular starter for United, despite calls from many fans and onlookers for the England captain to be dropped.
Ince also believes that Rooney should be played in the number 10 position, as he thinks that that is the role which best suits the former Everton player’s strengths.
There have been widespread calls from a large number of United fans for Rooney to be dropped from the starting eleven, with the consensus being that the 30—year-old is past his best, and his declining skill set has become a burden to the Red Devils on the field, preventing the likes of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic from operating to the best of their abilities.
Rooney started as a lone striker for United against Northampton Town in the EFL Cup on Thursday. Although Mourinho’s men won 3-1 – snapping a three game losing streak – Rooney failed to score, and looked unimpressive throughout.
There is now much debate over whether Rooney will be dropped for the visit of Leicester City in the Premier League tomorrow.
