AC Milan eye winter swoop for Depay

Depay free to leave United in January

AC Milan will step up their interest in Manchester United outcast Memphis Depay when the transfer window reopens in 2017. The Netherlands international has yet to make a Premier League start under Jose Mourinho this season.

The 22-year-old finds himself surplus to requirements despite only arriving at Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven a year ago.

Italian source Calciomercato suggests that the Rossoneri will pursue a temporary deal for Depay in the New Year with an obligation for a permanent £24m switch at the end of the campaign.

The Rossoneri are on the verge of a takeover from a Chinese consortium, and the new owners will offer significant funds to manager Vincenzo Montella to spend on fresh recruits in January.

Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas is the other name of the club's shortlist for the winter transfer window.

Depay has been a bench warmer since the start of the season, and it seems Mourinho will look to offload his services at the earliest opportunity.
